5 Features of Hardcover Books
Hardcover books are the most durable books available because of the sturdy loose-leaf binder used for the cover and the strong sewn binding. The book's construction includes two covers, spine panel (optional) and eight pages glued to the front and back of the cover, hiding the edges of the cover material and gluing the cover itself to the core. A headband and tailband are added to hide the top of the folded signature and to strengthen the spine.
Hardcover books go by many names-hardcover, hardcover, hardback, hardcover, hardcover, hardcover-but they all mean the same thing: quality presentation.
In most cases, hardcover books have five characteristics.
The cover is stiff or rigid
Cover is "wrapped"
Smythe stitched sections
Two back cover sheets (inside the front cover)
Square spine and round spine by spine form
There are two exceptions.
Pages are perfect bound, not Smythe stitched and then bound as hard covers
Some covers - but few - may be flexible rather than hard
